WINSTON-SALEM — The Winston-Salem Symphony presents American bluegrass/Americana composer, vocalist, and instrumentalist Dan Tyminksi as part of the Symphony Unbound series. Tyminski will perform with members of the Winston-Salem Symphony on Saturday, May 9 at 8 p.m. at Winston-Salem’s hottest music venue, the Ramkat, which is located at 170 West 9th Street.

Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind concert experience, which will bring live orchestral music together with a bluegrass star for an innovative concert experience that breaks free from the concert hall. Tickets start at $30 and can be purchased online at wssymphony.org or by calling 336-464-0145 beginning Monday, March 2 at 10 a.m.

The Symphony Unbound concert series brings music out of the concert hall and into the community. It is a collaborative music series that breaks from the traditions and norms of classical music. Attendees experience “classical” music in the least expected places: local bars, restaurants, nightclubs, bookstores, galleries, and more. Musicians of the Winston-Salem Symphony showcase innovative contemporary chamber music, while guest artists from an expanding portfolio of musical genres collaborate with the symphony in hip arrangements of their hit music. From dynamic bluegrass duo Mandolin Orange and folk-rock star Hiss Golden Messenger at The Ramkat to Hank, Pattie, and the Current at Muddy Creek Cafe, Symphony Unbound is setting trends and reaching the community in new and different ways.

Throughout his more than 30-year career, Dan Tyminski has left his mark in every corner of modern music. Tyminski’s voice famously accompanies George Clooney’s performance of the Stanley Brother’s classic song, “I’m A Man of Constant Sorrow,” in the film “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?”. His vocal collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii on the song “Hey, Brother” was a global smash, having been streamed over one billion times to date. Tyminski has contributed guitar and/or harmony to projects by Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Kenny Chesney, Leann Rimes, Aaron Lewis, and Rob Thomas, to name a few. In addition to his highly successful solo career, Tyminski has played guitar and mandolin for Alison Krauss and Union Station since 1994. His unmatched instrumental skills and burnished, soulful tenor voice have been key components of the band. Tyminski has been honored with 14 Grammy Awards from 18 nominations, was named Male Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association four times and was recognized as 2004’s Male Vocalist of the Year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America. He will be on tour with his bluegrass band throughout the coming months and will be releasing a new bluegrass album in early 2020.
