The Central Piedmont 4-A recently released its recognitions for all-conference awards for the winter sports season and West Forsyth was well represented.

The boys swimming team, which won the conference championship, had nine different swimmers receive all-conference awards through individual and relay events, three of which were recognized in four different events.

Connor Greene, who won the 50 free and 100 breast and swam winning legs on the 200-medley relay and 200 free relay, was also recognized as the co-swimmer of the year.

Luke Vlahos was also all-conference in the 200 free and 100 free as well as the 200-medley relay and 400 free relay, while Alex Valliere received all-conference awards in the 50 free, 100 breast, 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.

Logan McDonald was all conference in three different events, the 200 IM, 100 back, and 200 medley relay.

Leighton Jones (200 IM) and Jonah Green (500 free) were also recognized, as were Griffin Watkins and Jake Frieberg (200 and 400 free relay teams) and James McDonald (400 free relay).

The girls 200 medley relay team of Scarlett Clevenger, Kelly Smith, Madison McGuinness and Lauren Kranis also received an all-conference distinction.

Seven different wrestlers were recognized for their achievements this season.

Even LaBella, who wrestled at 126 pounds, was named as the lower weight wrestler of the year.

LaBella, a junior, finished the season with a 36-9 record and was third in the NCHSAA 4-A state championships.

Joseph Burns (106), Aidan Meagher (182), Jacob Zaitawi (170), Kevin Perez Olmeda (220) also earned all-conference honors and made it to the state championships.

Julian Lopez, a senior, finished the season with a 27-18 record at 220 pounds and Tucker Arnold was 32-17 at 170 pounds. Sophomore David Eldridge (285) finished the season with a 20-10 record.

West Forsyth finished the regular season 14-5, including a 4-1 conference mark. Its only loss during the regular season came against conference champion Glenn, which it went on to avenge in the 4-A dual team state tournament in the regional semifinals.

The girls basketball team, which finished the season 15-11 (7-3), and is the reigning 4-A state champions, placed two players on the all-conference team.

Junior center Shakira Baskerville and freshman guard Maddie Scheier were both recognized.

Baskerville averaged 25.3 points per game, 12.1 rebounds per game, 3.2 assists per game, and 2.1 steals per game.

Scheier averaged 18.3 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.7 steals per game in her first season with the program.

Both Baskerville and Scheier were also named to the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association all-district teams for District 7.

Baskerville was named to the first team and Scheier was named to the third team, the only freshman to be named to any of the three teams in the District.

Two boys basketball players also received all-conference awards.

C.J. Smith, a 6-4 senior forward, averaged 15 points per game and shot over 60 percent from the floor this season.

Bralen Morris, a 6-3 wing player, averaged 12 points and eight rebounds per game.
