Couriering the area this week in 1991 — The West Forsyth Titan football team opened its football season playing Carver High School. Senior defensive standouts were Freddie Transou, Rich Winkler and Andre McSwain.

Clemmons resident Sid Jones grew a 16½ pound cantaloupe in his backyard garden.

Three Clemmons residents received designations and diplomas from the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina — Donna E. Moore, Linda G. Taylor and Lynette J. Harper.

Lewisville resident, Mary Howe, was the featured Clemmons Courier, “Cook of the Week.”

Several local students earned degrees from Appalachian State University — Darren Edward Rhodes, Robin Lynne Tuttle, Joy Barham Minster, Terri Ann Beeson, Terry Lee Hales Jr. and Donna Faulkner Jarvis.

Clemmons Gymnastics Center opened on Kinnamon Road. It is owned and operated by Frank Wilkins, a former Forsyth County teacher and coach.

Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer Joe A. Grimes, son of Nancy and Lester Grimes Jr., reported for duty at Coast Guard Marine Safety Office in New Orleans.

J. Vernon Faulkner, of Clemmons, was elected systems officer at Wachovia Operational Services Corporation in Winston-Salem.

Three new coaches joined the West Forsyth football staff – Allen Kayler, Russell Stone and Michael Jordan.

Maude Bledsoe, of Clemmons, made her daughter Carrie’s wedding dress along with bridesmaids’ dresses and flower girl’s dress. She was featured, along with her dresses in the Courier.

Members of the varsity cheerleading squad were Jenny Prince, Carol Dellinger, Kelli Mock (captain), Adura Justice (co-captain), Dierdra James, Lanae Hill, Emily Jordan, Leslie Smith, Cindy Claassen, Amy Teague, Mike Everhart, Che McPherson, Steve Gallo, Thomas Lail and Rob Nelson.
