The Town of Lewisville will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new community center at 10 a.m. on Saturday next to Jack Warren Park.

The new community center will be named the Mary Alice Warren Community Center after Lewisville resident Mary Alice Warren, who donated the 15-acre site on which the community center is being built.

The new 12,000 square-foot center, which has an estimated cost of $4.5 million, will include a multi-purpose conference room that can accommodate up to 250 people or be divided into three smaller conference room areas. The building will also include an arts and crafts room, a small conference room, an large atrium area with fireplace and an outside covered event porch.

Mayor Mike Horn said that unfortunately because of event size restrictions by the state, the town had to limit the number of people who could attend.

“It breaks my heart because we wanted this to be a big community event,” Horn says. “We’ll do that at the opening.”

The groundbreaking will be broadcast live on the town’s Facebook page “Town of Lewisville” and will be replayed on channel 6.

Construction of the community center is scheduled to take one year with a grand opening planned for fall 2021. The community center is located on Lewisville-Clemmons Road next to Jack Warren Park, a 15-acre multi-use park also donated to the Town of Lewisville by Mary Alice Warren.
