CLEMMONS — The contractor for the Interstate 40 widening project at the Forsyth-Davie county line plans to close a lane of the highway for several days.

The left lane of I-40 West is scheduled to close between Lewisville-Clemmons Road (Exit 184) and just west of Harper Road (Exit 182) from 7 p.m. Friday until no later than 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. This will put the westbound side of the interstate in a one-lane pattern along this stretch.

The closure is needed so the contractor can safely remove and replace the pavement structure under the Harper Road bridge.

Drivers who want to avoid this lane reduction are encouraged to follow U.S. 421 North and I-77 South back to I-40 West as an alternative route. Those who continue through this section should slow down and use caution as crews work near the travel lane.

This project includes widening and improving 3.3 miles of I-40 to six lanes between N.C. 801 and Harper Road and replacing the I-40 bridges over the Yadkin River.
