CLEMMONS — Overnight lane closures this weekend will usher in a traffic shift next week on Interstate 40 at the Davie-Forsyth county line.
Contract crews plan to close a lane of eastbound I-40 between the N.C. 801 and Harper Road exits from 10 Sunday and Monday nights until 5 a.m. the following mornings.

These closures will allow crews to safely install temporary concrete barrier and pavement markings needed to shift eastbound traffic from its current pattern using the westbound lanes back to the eastbound side. When the shift is complete Tuesday morning, eastbound I-40 will be using two lanes of the eventual three-lane final traffic pattern on the new bridge over the Yadkin River.

This schedule is weather dependent and may be subject to change.

Drivers should slow down, anticipate the traffic pattern change and be mindful of crews working near the travel lanes throughout the work zone.
This work is part of the ongoing project to widen and improve 3 miles of I-40 and replace the bridges over the Yadkin River.
