This week, the Titans made a return to their Zoom classes after a much-needed three-week winter break. With students and staff entering the new year, some have resolutions they’d like to stick to in order to make them more successful in school.

“I need to stop being so complacent, even though it is my senior year I have to make a bigger effort not to procrastinate school work,” senior Shiv Hira said.

Other than new goals, the first students will be going back in-person to take end-of-course exams in classes like math 1, English 2, and biology. While that is a relatively small group, it is a good sign for the rest of West’s population tired of computer screens.

Over the break, West’s basketball teams made their debuts with both the girls and boys teams coming out of the gate with a 1-1 record in their first two games. Along with working out the rust, student athletes are being faced with new challenges and distractions amidst the pandemic.

“There are a lot of distractions for me. The main one being the mask. It is so weird to play with something on my face and restricting my breathing. Another thing is the games are very quiet and it’s just not normal,” senior Jake Hill said.

Nevertheless, both teams will aim to continue their early season success as will the rest of West students pursuing academic excellence as we approach some opportunities to return in person.
