Couriering this area this week in 1971 — 50 years ago: The West Forsyth cheerleaders gathered for a pajama party at Cindy Fowler’s home on Hawkwood Trail after West scored a 79-69 victory over East Forsyth High. Those attending were Nancy Brawley, Beth Alspaugh, Bonnie Gabard, Denise Wall, Pat James, Carolyn Stanley, Jane Reisenweaver, Marsha Clarke and Cindy Fowler.

Trimella Wooten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Wooten Jr., was selected sophomore May Court attendant at Appalachian State University. Wooten was one of two sophomores voted on the court by the student body at ASU. 

The Clemmons Extension Homemakers Club met with Mrs. Robert Walker at her home on Bridgewater Drive. Mrs. E.B. Mullican was the associate hostess. Eleven members attended and two visitors, Mrs. E.E. Powell III of Asheville and Mrs. Max Bingham of Clemmons. Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Mullican presented a program “A Chicken in Every Pot,” where they gave lots of information on chicken plus recipes.

Aletha Avette Sprinkle was crowned Miss Troop 714 at the Lewisville Civic Center. Sprinkle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Sprinkle of Clemmons. First runner-up was Patricia Ann Coffey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Coffey of Clemmons. Second runner-up in the contest was Renita Anne Fulton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Fulton of Lewisville.

Mrs. James Hampton of Shallowford Road entertained members of the Tuesday Morning Bridge Club. Two tables of bridge were in play. Mrs. Harold Simpson, a club guest, was awarded the high score prize. Others present were Mrs. John Beck, a guest, Mrs. W. Ray Lasley, Mrs. T.S. Martin, Mrs. Tom Pratt, Mrs. Gray Mock and Mrs. Voyle Conrad

Sharon Booker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney L. Booker of Woodbourne Drive, Clemmons, was a pagette in the N.C. Legislature under the sponsorship of the Rep. Lawrence Davis from Forsyth County.

The Greenbriar Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. S.C. Staley on Lakewood Drive. Mrs. Doug Watkins, club president, presided. Mrs. Combs of Southern Bell presented a program of slides with commentary entitled “A Visit to Williamsburg.”
