Team announces a Pride Night and events for college students and Little Leaguers
WINSTON-SALEM — The Carolina Disco Turkeys began their second home stand of the summer this week with five dates scheduled at Truist Stadium, beginning with a game on Wednesday evening.
The stretch of games for the independent summer wood bat team includes promotions tied to each event. Wednesday’s game with the High Point-Thomasville Locos was Healthcare Workers Appreciation Night, featuring half-price admission at the gate for anyone presenting a healthcare employee ID badge. Tonight’s game is a Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursdays game with discounted beers, a Pride Night will be held on Friday, a College Night on Saturday featuring a visit from the Boone Bigfoots (a team partnered with Appalachian State University) and a Little League Day on Sunday afternoon.
“We had a successful opening home stand in early June, but we’re even more excited to settle into our normal routine with this new home stand, which will be games primarily beginning at 5:35 p.m.,” said Greg Sullivan, team president and co-owner of the Disco Turkeys. “These games are going to be perfect for families with kids and for people just getting off of work in the city. We can’t wait to enjoy the rest of the summer with our fans.”
The Disco Turkeys (3-9) struggled on the road initially following their last home stand, but split two road games this past week, which included a 10-2 win at the Martinsville Ponies. The team has recently added new players who joined from NCAA Tournament teams, including the immensely talented pitcher and short stop Austin St. Laurent from powerhouse East Carolina, as well as infielders Kix Ferrel and Kason Haggard from Division II’s West Texas A&M. These compliment players already on the roster from Wake Forest, Davidson, Rice, UNC Greensboro and others.
Any little leaguer who attends the game on Sunday, June 27, in their team jersey gets free admission to the game. That game will also include other activities designed to recognize youth baseball and softball players and encourage participation in youth sports. Teams and families are encouraged to attend the game in groups to celebrate their own seasons.
