SOUTHERN PINES — Macie and Jeff Burcham of Greensboro captured the overall championship title on July 16 at the 24th Carolinas Parent-Child Championship at Longleaf Golf and Family Club. They earned their first championship title with an outstanding 7-under-par, 65.
“I was supposed to drive it into the fairway every time and his (Jeff’s) wedge game is unmatched so it was important to let him hit all of the wedge shots,” Macie said. They stuck to their game plan and fired off seven birdies on Nos. 2, 6, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17.
“This is her second to last junior golf event, so to be able to pull through and do a good job of staying in the moment means everything,” Jeff said. “In years past we have gotten to three, four or five under and then we get tentative and today we just kept focusing on the shot ahead of us. Today she did a great job of that. She kept me grounded and kept the old man in it. There is nothing better than having her beside me and to work together like that.”
Hannah and Jeff Craver of Winston-Salem, Kathryn and Tom Carson of Mooresville, and Kevin and Sadler Miller of Clayton tied for runner-up at 4-under-par, 68. The 2014, 2015 and 2019 champions Jodee and Kevin Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C. tied for fifth with Claire and John Patrick of Creedmoor at 2-under-par, 70.
Mary-Paige and Kevin King of Clemmons were tied for eighth with a 1-over-par, 73
Torey Chandler of Pinehurst, CGA tournament administrator, and her father Terry Johnson of Conway, S.C. took home the Open Division title with a net even-par, 72. Chris and Sydney Brown of Fuquay-Varina earned runner-up with a 4-over-par, 76.
