Widening of the Lewisville-Clemmons Road two-lane bridge over Interstate 40 has been delayed a couple of months. The delay is due to one right-of-way tied up in bankruptcy court. According to Stanley Morgan, Department of Transportation Division 9 right-of-way agent. Morgan said that his department had already acquired necessary and additional right-of-way of 14 tracts of land along Lewisville-Clemmons Road. However Morgan said the delay was out of his hands and involves a right-a-way from Circle K beside Quincy’s Steak House. Circle K property is tied up in bankruptcy court in Atlanta and Florida.

W.R. “Bill” Slater of Lewisville, was named Forsyth County Fireman of the Year on Saturday. Slater received the award trophy at the annual Forsyth County Firemans’ banquet. Lewisville Fire Department, which he has served as a volunteer for 29 years, also received a large trophy. This department trophy will be kept for a year. The honored fireman has served as deputy chief for the Lewisville Fire Department since 1978.

Two Clemmons Girl Scouts from Troop 437, Heather Marie Gillespie and Whitney Mann, have earned the highest award in Cadette Girl Scouting-the Silver Award. The girls received the awards in a special ceremony at Clemmons United Methodist Church. Scout leader Staples Kute made the presentations.

The West Forsyth Titans clinched a share of the CPC title with a 29-14 victory over The Reynolds High Demons. The victory gave the Titans a final conference record which tied them with Greensboro Grimsley for the CPC title. Because West lost to Grimsley earlier in the season, the Titans were forced to take the conference’s second seed in the upcoming playoffs. They will open post season play this Friday night at undefeated East Mecklenburg.

The West Forsyth Class of 1966 held their 25th class reunion recently at the Off Fellow Clubhouse. The evening began with socializing and getting reacquainted. Alumni, spouses, friends and teachers enjoyed a delicious barbecue dinner. The former principal of the class and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Simpson attended. Mike Sloan, a reunion committee representative, introduced Simpson, alias “the Bear,” with his calling card, a yardstick. The former principal told some tall tales, which were near and dear to his heart.

Alex Black was recently selected to participate in the U.S Swimming Eagle Select camp at the U.S. Training Center in Colorado Springs. He was one of 32 swimmers in his group who was chosen from throughout the nation. Black, a Lewisville resident, has been a standout swimmer locally for Forsyth Country Day and the Winston-Salem YMCA.

Emily Hollis Watson celebrated her first birthday on Nov. 9. She is the daughter of Ed and Karen Watson of Califon, New Jersey, former residents of Clemmons. Maternal grandparents are Dennis and Melba Tesh of Clemmons. Paternal grandparents are Kenneth and Ruby Watson of Clemmons.
