The 50th wedding anniversary of Carrol and Victoria Tifft was held at Holy Family Parish Center on Saturday, Nov. 23, after Holy Mass. A private family dinner followed at Michael’s Restaurant in Winston-Salem. The couple’s daughters and son-in law are Joyce and Stan Sheridan of Birmingham, Michigan and Julie and G. Michael Pais of Lexington.  

The final bell has sounded and the West Forsyth Family YMCA is in the homestretch. As of last week, $2.2 million of the $2.5 million needed, has been raised and construction was expected to begin this spring. “It’s not over yet and we still need pledges, but we’re getting very close,” Ron Willard, chairman of the YMCA board of managers, said last week.

Whitney Weber and Elaine Williams were named student and teacher of the month, respectively, from Clemmons Elementary School. Brad Romine, the education chairman of the council, made the presentation of engraved plaques. Whitney Weber, 10, is a fifth grader in the academically gifted class. Her parents are J.D. and Vicki Weber of Clemmons. Teacher Elaine Williams is a native of Winston-Salem. She graduated from Reynolds High School and Meredith College, and is working on a master’s degree from Wake Forest University.

For 24 West Forsyth senior football players, the dream of a North Carolina 4A state championship is over. Their quest to win a state title came to an abrupt halt last Friday when the Titans suffered a 12-6 overtime loss to Asheville High School in the second round of the state playoffs. The setback, which gave West a final record of 10-2, marked the second time in two years that the Titans were ousted in the playoff in dramatic fashion. In last year’s state title game, they fell to Richmond County on the final play of the season.   

Agape Faith Church will break ground on a $625,000 building Sunday. The 12,000-square-foot facility will be located south of Willow Trace Apartments on Lewisville-Clemmons Road. The Rev J.B. Whitfield said the service will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the present facility and move to the building site at about 11:30 a.m. Sexton Construction Co. of Winston-Salem is the builder. Agape founded in 1982, has about 300 members.  Whitfield said construction should be complete by May 1992.
