Gingerbread Creation Contest (Virtual)

• Dec. 1-20

Email a photo of your gingerbread creation (a house, a train, a library, etc.) to jordanmc@forsyth.cc by Dec.20. All pictures will be posted on the Lewisville Branch Library’s website and you may vote for your favorite creation there from Dec. 21-22. The winning photo will be announced on Dec. 23. The winning individual or team will get a prize. You may work on your gingerbread creation in a team or solo. Sponsored by the Friends of the Lewisville Library.

Snowy Photo Booth

Meteoroids, Comets, and Asteroids (in-person outdoors)

• Tuesday, Dec. 14, from 4-5 p.m.

Shallowford Square Park, 6555 Shallowford Road, Lewisville

Recommended for ages 5-11.

In honor of the Geminids Meteor Shower (Dec. 7-17), come learn about meteoroids, comets and asteroids from Annette Horsley, NASA Solar System ambassador. This will be an in-person outdoors program (weather permitting). Masks are required for those 5 years of age and older.

Santa Visit (virtual)

• Thursday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m.

Santa Claus will be visiting the Lewisville Branch virtually all the way from the North Pole. Stories, rhymes, songs and activities for children on a Christmas theme. Recommended for children ages 2-5 years and their caregivers, but all ages are welcome. Email Mia Jordan at jordanmc@forsyth.cc to sign up. Sponsored by the Friends of the Lewisville Library.

Crafts-to-Go: New Year’s

Adult programs

Hook & Loop Group (in-person and virtual)

• Wednesday, Dec. 1, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Hook & Loop Group meets the first Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m at the Lewisville Branch Library auditorium. Come and join yarn crafters who like to knit, crochet, embroider and such. Bring your own project to work on or use some simple supplies and patterns that will be on hand. All skill levels are welcome. Share each other’s company and maybe a tip or two about a project. Art for Well-being

Lewisville Branch auditorium

Local artist and occupational therapist Patty Donoghue returns to the Lewisville Branch to teach about painting with watercolor and ink. Participants will not only learn an art skill they can take home with them, but also will gain the sense that the process of creating art promotes well-being and reduces stress, particularly during the holiday season.

Supplies needed for class: watercolor set (child’s set works well), small watercolor pad, watercolor brushes, container for water. The library will supply markers and paper towels. If you don’t have supplies, let the library know and they will be provided. Registration will be required. To register, call 336-703-2940.

MED Instead of MEDS (in-person and virtual)

Six-week series on Thursdays from noon-1 p.m.

Dates: Dec. 2, Dec. 9, Dec. 16, Jan. 6, Jan. 13, Jan. 20

Registration deadline is Dec. 1 at 5 p.m.

The Lewisville Branch joins with North Carolina Cooperative Extension agent Virginia Lopez to learn seven simple steps to eating the Mediterranean Way. This will include mindful eating, meal planning, label reading, right-sizing proportions and being mindful about physical activity. There will also be a cooking demonstration by Forsyth County’s Chef Floyd Davis at each session. Participants may attend in person in the library auditorium to view Lopez’s presentation on the projection screen or view from home via Zoom. Either way, you won’t want to miss learning about the ‘Med Way’ to a healthier lifestyle. To register, call 336-703-2940.

Yoga for Beginners (in-person and virtual)

Join in at the Lewisville Branch auditorium or from home for two free yoga sessions to help uplift your mind and body during this stressful time. Genealogical Testing — Heritage or DNA?: A Discussion of Cultural Identity (in-person and virtual)

• Wednesday, Dec. 8, at noon

Genealogical DNA testing has become more and more popular in recent years, but what do the results really mean about who you are? Dr. Andrew Gurstelle, academic director of the LAM Museum of Anthropology, will discuss the basics of genealogical DNA testing, how DNA can be tied to cultural identity, and how his own DNA results relate to his cultural identity. Participants are welcome to come with questions or comments about their own DNA testing experience.

Lewisville Branch’s 2021 Reading Challenge

Take the yearlong reading challenge for your chance to win a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble. The challenge has two levels: Beginner and Aficionado. You can choose to read one or both challenges. Beginner entries are entered once. Aficionado entries are entered twice, and if you read both Beginner and Aficionado challenges, you’re entered three times to win. Submit entries by Friday, Dec. 10.

Witchy Washi Tape Crafters (in-person and virtual)
