Emma Cate Burhans was recognized on Nov. 17 as the Clemmons Rotary Club’ Student of the Month for November.

In nominating Emma Cate, West Forsyth High School stated the following:

“Emma Cate is an outstanding student. She is the FCA leader as well as one of the captains of the varsity volleyball team. Emma Cate is looked up to by many underclassmen for her kind heart, inclusiveness and generosity towards all. She is such a bright light on this campus and in the volleyball program.”

Burhans is an excellent student with a GPA of 4.44 and ranks 32nd in a class of 563 students and is a member of the National Honor and Math societies.

She is involved in several school-related activities including four-year member and current co-captain of the volleyball team; member of the West Forsyth Girls Service and Anchor clubs — volunteering for several school and community projects; president and leader for four years of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and class representative for three years of the Student Government Association.

Outside of school, Burhans is involved in volunteer activities with Calvary Baptist Church as a member of the youth worship band and middle school Bible fellowship teacher.

In addition, she works as a hostess at the Clemmons Cracker Barrel Family Restaurant and has been the head lifeguard for four years at the Waterford Community Pool.

Burhans recognized an acute need in the community during the COVID pandemic for face masks and started her own company, EC Custom Masks, where she made, advertised, sold and distributed masks within the community.

She was recently honored in an article published about her in the Forsyth Woman magazine’s Exceptional Young Women in the Community publication.

Burhans is considering attending UNC Chapel Hill, N.C. State or UNC Wilmington to major in business and marketing.
