Clemmons village manager Tom Long, 57, resigned his position Monday night after being forced into action by a majority of the village council. In a separate motion, the council hired retired Army Colonel Alfred M. Dillon, 59, as interim manager at $30,000 a year.

Marilyn Leidy of Clemmons was appointed to the Planning Board in a 4-1 vote by the village council. In the special meeting of the council, the appointment was made from a field of three candidates; Leidy, Jack Ross and Mac Bynum. Dr. Paul Horton had withdrawn his application from the board.  

Keith and Patti Powers announced the birth of a daughter, Rachel Faith, on Monday, Dec. 16, at Forsyth Hospital. She has two sisters, Ashley, 7, and Savannah, 4.

Greg and Kin Faircloth of Lewisville announced the birth of their daughter, Julia Morgan, on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Forsyth Hospital. She has a sister, Emily, 3. Maternal grandparents are Jeanette and Jim Priestly of Advance. Paternal grandparents are Jake and Dorothy Faircloth of Clemmons.

The Hornets remained undefeated in the Junior Boys Division of Cougar Basketball last week by defeating the Cavs in a game that was much closer than the final score would indicate. The Hornets who were paced by Todd Love’s 17-point performance, claimed a 35-28 win. Love, the game’s leading scorer, was followed by Oliver Gibson with 12 points, Dallas Eccles with four and Timmy Love with two.

Two local women who enjoy preparing party foods have started their own catering business. Regina Grady of Clemmons and Martha McBride of Advance are lifelong friends who went to high school together in Davie. Both women like cooking and when Martha’s daughter got married recently, the two friends decided to cater the reception themselves. This venture was successful and the two decided to open a catering service called Party Planners.

The two-lane bridge on Lewisville-Clemmons Road over I-40 continues to bottleneck traffic, but the remedy may be a little closer to reality. Stanley Morgan with the Department of Transportation, said last week the contract for the widening project is scheduled to be set Feb. 18.
