WINSTON-SALEM — Sometimes to get the best results from a workout, you need to have the best equipment to track results and progression.

The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina has the tools that can help its members — and potential members — to not only reach their fitness goals, but to have a better understanding of themselves and their individual wellness needs.

“Every person is different, and that is especially true when it comes to weight loss or general fitness,” said Jordan Lloyd, vice president of wellness experience at the YMCA of NWNC. “When you can better understand your body’s composition and how it reacts to certain workouts, it will make a world of difference.”

Myzone is a wearable fitness tracker and online social platform that shows and rewards the user’s effort when they work out. It tracks heart rate, calories burned, and displays this information right on a smartphone.

“If you want to know how much effort you put into a workout and if you need to change the intensity of it, this tool can very accurately give you that information,” Lloyd said.

The YMCA of NWNC has the traditional MZ-Activity Belt — that is worn around the torso — and the new MZ-Switch — which can be worn across the torso, arm, or wrist — for sale to members.

The FIT 3D ProScanner gives users a total assessment of their body’s composition beyond weight and BMI by taking more than 400 measurements in 40 seconds. These measurements include a 360 degree body image, posture analysis, balance, weight, and more.

“Before you start a fitness journey with a set of goals in mind, you need to know about the version of you that’s at the starting line. These scanners go beyond what a bathroom scale can tell you and gives you the knowledge to understand more about your body composition,” Lloyd said.

The YMCA of NWNC has a 3D Scanner at three of its locations — the Jerry Long, Kernersville, and Robinhood Road Family YMCAs — and is available to all members and potential members by appointment.
