Wrestling

The wrestling team enjoyed a successful week by posting a huge Central Piedmont 4-A Conference win at Davie County last Wednesday and then winning the Kannapolis Brown Dual meet with an unblemished 5-0 record. The Titans defeated West Charlotte, Kannapolis, Concord, Mount Pleasant, and West Rowan. David Eldridge was named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Wrestler.

Against Davie, Ziggy Malave gave the Titans a huge boost with a pin against Jack Jarvis in the 170-pound weight class. Jarvis was the NCHSAA 4-A state champion last season. Malave’s win propelled the Titans to a 39-33 win. Landon Hairston, Aidan Meagher, Mack David, Eldridge, Emmanuel Jarquin, Damian Cisneros and Cayden Glass also picked up wins for West.

Swimming

Congratulations to Anna McCutchen and Emmy Rhodes for advancing to the regional diving championships based on their finishes last week at the Central Piedmont 4-A Conference meet held at Wake Forest.

McCutchen finished third and Rhodes finished seventh in the field.

The conclusion of the conference swimming championships will take place Friday at the Kernersville YMCA. The West boys and girls are both in third place heading into the swimming events.

Logan McDonald was named the swimmer of the week by NC Prep Swimming after his performance at the recent Bob Sawyer Invitational. McDonald has the top time in the state in the 100 breast and the No. 4 time in the 100 fly.

Basketball

The West Forsyth boys teams split their two games last week and will carry a 6-9 (2-5 CPC 4A) record into this week’s games.

The Titans slipped past Reynolds last Tuesday 69-68 before falling at home to East Forsyth on Friday night, 56-43.

West will travel to Mount Tabor on Friday night for a conference clash against the Spartans.

The girls team dropped both of their games last week and are 4-8 (3-2) as conference play heats up.

Reynolds downed West last Tuesday 47-32, and East Forsyth handed the Titans a 52-37 defeat last Friday.

Their game against Southwest Guilford scheduled for Monday night was postponed because of weather. They will take on Mount Tabor on Friday, a team they beat 42-37 earlier this season.
