The Shallow Ford Foundation, a community foundation serving Clemmons, Lewisville and Yadkin counties, and northern Davidson County, announced that its 2022 scholarship application period is now open. The foundation will give up to 20 awards this year, available to a wide range of students, including graduating seniors, full-time students, part-time students, and adults returning to complete a degree or certificate program. Each scholarship is made possible by a philanthropic member of this community. Online applications can be completed at shallowfordfoundation.org/apply/scholarships. Students of all ages, with any academic background and career plans, are encouraged to explore the options available.

“Each one of these scholarships holds a story and potential. The story comes from the generous individuals who make the opportunity possible. Each story honors a hero, a leader, a loved one, or a value that is worth being passed on. The potential is in the recipient who will benefit from that generosity and become part of the story. It is our privilege to be able to help connect the two,” said Tim Bell, the chair of the Shallow Ford Foundation.

The Coach Murph Scholarship

Up to a total of $16,000, given as four annual installments of $4,000, for a 2022 graduate of West Forsyth High School. The applicant must be a student-athlete who has demonstrated good character, hard work, service and the ability to overcome challenges while a leader on the field of play, in the classroom and the community.

The Leslie Martin West Forsyth Early Scholars Program

Up to $1,500 for a junior or senior from West Forsyth High School who is enrolled in the NC Career & College Promise Program, with a minimum 3.0 GPA both in high school classes and CCP classes and enrolled in a specified program of study — certificate program, AA or AS Degree, or courses for two-year transfer to a four-year college. This scholarship pays for other costs not covered (such as class kits, tools, uniforms and other expenses related to college courses).

The Leslie Martin Scholarship

Up to $2,500 for a 2022 graduate of West Forsyth High School. Applicants must be an active member of the Interact Club of the Clemmons Rotary Club and/or the Finance Academy at WFHS. The student must also show academic integrity, dedication to others, and leadership skills.

The Rebecca and Danny Green Music Scholarship

Up to $1,500 for a 2022 graduate of West Forsyth High School who has actively participated in one or more music programs at WFHS. Applicants must show a dedication to the program through not only practice and performances but also through meaningful contributions of service and participation — within the school and external to the school, as well as good character in their relationships.

The Thad and Mary Bingham Education Assistance Awards for graduating seniors

Up to $2,500 for a 2022 graduating senior from West Forsyth High School with demonstrated financial need. Applicants must have a clearly stated desire to pursue additional education toward an occupational credential or degree.

The Charles and Robin Paul Scholarship Award

Up to $2,000 for a graduate who completed high school before 2022 and is a resident of Forsyth County. Applicants must be either working towards completing an academic or vocational program, with preference given to students planning to or currently attending Winston-Salem State University.

The Clarence ‘Big House’ Gaines Reynolda Rotary College Assistance Program

Up to $5,000 annually for a high school graduate who attended Cook Elementary School in Winston-Salem for at least three years. Applicants must plan to attend or already be enrolled at Forsyth Tech or Winston-Salem State University.

The Kim and Chris Henson Scholarship Awards

Up to $2,000 for two students who are 2022 graduates from Reagan High School. Applicant must be an active student-athlete who plans to attend an accredited four-year college or university to pursue a degree that leads to a career in teaching or the medical field. Financial need is not a requirement.

The Mary Elizabeth Dodson Conrad Scholarship

Up to $2,500 for two high school graduates who are residents of Forsyth County and seeking a degree or credential in the healthcare field. Both graduating seniors or adult students may apply.

The Mason H. Hunter Vocational Educational Scholarship of the Lewisville-Clemmons Chamber of Commerce

Up to $2,500 for a 2022 graduate of West Forsyth, Reagan, or North Davidson High School. Applicants must plan to attend a two-year or four-year program of study leading to a degree or certification in any trade, technical, or vocational field with a clear career pathway. The recipient will also be paired with a mentor from the Lewisville-Clemmons Chamber of Commerce.

The Salem Glen College Assistance Program

Two awards will be given in the Salem Glen College Assistance Program, which aims to help adults return to school to improve their options for a higher-earning career. The program awards scholarships of up to $2,500 towards a two-year degree or certification program from Forsyth Tech or Davidson-Davie Community College. Also, it provides a mentor, a volunteer from the Salem Glen neighborhood, to scholarship recipients to help the student navigate their education and career path. The awards are given in honor of two people this year: Richard Bunker and Jerome (Fritz) Burkel.

The Thad and Mary Bingham Education Assistance Award for Adult Students

Up to $2,500 for a graduate from West Forsyth High School from the class of 2021 or earlier. The applicant must have demonstrated financial need and a commitment to pursue a credential for advancement in a chosen career.
