Grants, in amounts of up to $2,500, are available for teachers, guidance counselors, instructional facilitators, media coordinators and other educators in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools for various professional growth and enrichment opportunities.

Grants are awarded in support of innovative and results-oriented educational opportunities that enable educators to enhance their impact on students and enrich the subject and/or content being taught in the classroom. These projects should expand the knowledge and skills of both teachers and students.

The foundation appreciates the component funds that support the Forsyth County Teacher Grants program: the Sam and Anne Booke Family Trust, the Gaddy Educator Fund, the Doris Joyce Kohfeldt Educator Fund, the Maytrice Walton Fund, and the Blanche Raper Zimmerman Fund.

Requests may include:
• Innovative classroom experiences
• Educational travel to be incorporated into the classroom and/or school curriculum
• Local, state, and national conferences, workshops, or seminars
• Other professional growth and enrichment opportunities

Priority will be given to requests that demonstrate the following:
• Impact on students
• Professional development of the applicant
• Connection of the educational experience/project to classroom content
• The dissemination of activities and lessons to other educators
Applicants should submit only one application per deadline. Funds cannot be used for salary support of applicants, graduate studies, or national board certification.

Forsyth County teacher grant applications are considered once a year in the winter; applicants will receive a decision within a two-month review period.

To apply, visit the foundation’s new Grant Application Portal and register for an account. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31. For more info about creating an account, read our registration instructions.

Selection and payment process: An advisory committee of professional educators will review applications and select grant recipients. Grants will be paid directly to recipients.
