McDonald, Valliere lead West boys to third straight CPC swim title

McDonald breaks four meet records and is named Swimmer of the Year, Thomerson Coach of the Year; girls team finishes third

Logan McDonald and Alex Valliere both won four events to power the West Forsyth boys swimming team to their third straight Central Piedmont 4-A Conference championship last Saturday at the Kernersville YMCA.
West finished with 338.5 point to slip past Reagan, which finished with 319.5.
McDonald broke meet records in both his individual wins — the 200 IM and the 100 breast — and swan legs on two record-setting relay teams — the 200 medley and 200 free relays — and was named as the Swimmer of the Year in the conference.

McDonald shattered the record in the 200 IM by nearly three seconds, finishing in 1 minute, 54.56 seconds to eclipse the previous record of 1.57:42 set by Reagan’s Levente Bathory in 2017. McDonald’s touched the wall in 57.82 seconds in the 100 breast, breaking the previous mark of 57.92 held by Reagan’s Paul Neil and set in 2016.
Valliere won individual titles in the 50 and 100 freestyle races and joined McDonald on the 200 medley and 200 free relay teams. He also set a new meet record in the 50 free. His time of 21.17 seconds bested the previous mark of 21.64 set by former Titan Connor Greene in 2020.
The 200 free relay team finished in 1 minute, 28.36 seconds and beat the old record set by West in 2020. The 200-medley relay team won in 1 minute, 35.71 seconds to beat the old record of 1:36.50 set by Reagan in 2019.

Alex Valliere won four events and set three new meet records in helping the West Forsyth boys win their third straight CPC swim title
The West Forsyth girls finished in third place with 284 points and had one first-place finish from Katherine Perdue in the 100 backstroke. Perdue also finished third in the 200 IM and was on two relay teams that finished third — the 200 medley and 400 free relay.
Audrianne Frondoza picked up a second-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 59.88 seconds.
Sandy Thomerson, who coaches both teams, was also named as the boy’s Coach of the Year in the Central Piedmont 4-A.

Katherine Perdue was the CPC conference champion in the 100 backstroke
The Titans also had first place finishes by Jonah Greene (200 free) and Kyle Creep (500 free), and both Greene and Creep teamed up with Leighton Jones and Ethan Frondoza to win the 400 free relay. Greene and Creep also finished 1-2 in the 200 free.
Frondoza and Jones also joined McDonald and Valliere on the winning 200 medley relay team. Frondoza, McDonald, Valliere and Chris Miller made up the winning 200 free relay team.
Next up for the Titans will be the 4A Central Regional at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Saturday, Feb. 5.
