The calendar turn from January to February launched the Neighbors helping Neighbors initiative in conjunction with the Clemmons Food Pantry earlier this week.

During the month of February, area residents are encouraged to help stock the food pantry to help local families in need. Donation boxes are located at the Clemmons Food Pantry, Village Hall and Sunrise Yoga Studio.

Each week of the month has a different theme attached to it.

For the first week, the theme is “Capture My Heart: 12 Most Wanted.” People are encouraged to donate food items from the top 12 most wanted list. These are: a one-pound bag of rice, grits, salad dressings, canned soup, peanut butter, canned stew, ketchup/mustard, cereal, canned chicken, canned chili, oatmeal and a one-pound bag of beans.

During the second week, the theme is “Soup”er Bowl Drive, where people are encouraged to bring canned soup donations to any gatherings held to watch the Super Bowl and donate those to the food pantry.

The third week is themed “Let’s Celebrate our community,” and residents are encouraged to bring in items for desserts — cake and brownie mixes, frosting, candles, sprinkles and frosting.

And for the final week of the month, the theme is “Feed a Family.” People are encouraged to donate money if they are able. The Food Pantry estimates that $120 can feed a family of four for one week.

The campaign will culminate with an event from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Food Pantry. Triad Express Train rides and several food trucks will be on hand to celebrate the month-long giving to keep the Food Pantry well-stocked.
