The West Forsyth boys swimming team finished third in the Central 4-A Regional last Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center behind two winning relay teams and strong individual performances from Logan McDonald and Alex Valliere.

The West boys finished with 217 points. Cary Green Hope won the team title with 256 points, while Apex Friendship was second with 237 points.
McDonald, the boys swimmer of the year in the Central Piedmont 4-A Conference, notched two second place finishes in his individual events, the 100 fly and the 100 breast, and swam legs on both the winning relay teams, the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. Both relay times (1 minute, 34.29 seconds in the 200 medley, 1 minute, 25.76 seconds in the 200 free) are up for All-American recognitions.

Valliere had runner-up finishes in the 50 free and the 100 free and also joined McDonald on both winning relay teams.

Leighton Jones and Ethan Frondoza joined McDonald and Valliere on the 200 medley relay team, and Jonah Greene and Frondoza also competed on the 200 freestyle relay team.

The top six finishers in each event at the Regional qualified for this week’s NCHSAA 4-A state championship meet at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.

The girls team finished in 16th place with 44 points.

Wrestling

West Forsyth will turn its attention back to individual performances this weekend in the 4-A Midwest Regional, which will be held Friday and Saturday at the Cabarrus County Arena.

The top four individuals in each weight class will advance to the NCHSAA 4-A state championships at the Greensboro Coliseum, which will be held Feb. 17-19.

Girls basketball

The Titans went 1-2 last week and will head into the final week of the regular season with a 6-11 record (5-5, CPC 4A) with games scheduled at Davie County on Tuesday and at East Forsyth on Friday.

West downed Parkland 45-25 last Wednesday to pick up its sixth win of the season but suffered losses to Reagan 49-33 last Tuesday and Davie last Friday in a 45-43 nail-biter.

The junior varsity girls beat Reagan 53-36 last Tuesday to remain unbeaten in conference play (12-3 overall, 9-0 CPC). Marissa Vernon poured in 21 points to lead the Titans and Ki Wilkins added 12. Nia Gary finished with nine and Sienna Ricciardi chipped in eight.

Boys basketball

The varsity boys were winless last in in both of their games, falling to Reagan 55-52 in overtime last Tuesday and Davie 49-41.

Bralen Morris led the way for the Titans against the Raiders with 17 points, and A.J. Baskerville added 12.

West enters the final week of the regular season at 7-14 overall and 3-9 in the CPC.

The junior varsity boys lost against Reagan 59-47 last Tuesday. The Titans trailed by three heading into the fourth quarter but were outscored 20-11.
Christian Alexander led the Titans with 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

Indoor track

The NCHSAA 4-A indoor track and field championships will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the JDL Fast Track facility in Winston-Salem beginning at 9 a.m.
