Jonathan Dai was recognized on Feb. 16, 2022, as the Rotary Club of Clemmons’ Student of the Month for February.

Dai is an excellent student with a weighted GPA of 4.4.

According to one of his teachers, he is an excellent student in American History. He is always prepared, works with anyone and went above and beyond on every assignment.

“What makes him stand apart to me is that on the morning of Senior Day, when the band director asked the band students to arrive early to help her break down the stage from the band concerts the night before, Jonathan was the only one to show up. While other seniors were congregating for
Senior Day, he was carrying equipment for her. When I told him that I would help find other students to do that, so he could be where he was supposed to be, he refused to leave her to do it all alone. This was the type of work ethic and character I saw throughout the semester,” his teacher said.

His school-related honors and awards include being accepted to North Carolina Governor’s School East at Meredith College for instrumental music (flute) and performed in various concerts with the NCGSE Wind Ensemble; performing in All-County, All-District, All-State bands and attained top chairs in competitions on flute for three consecutive years.

Dai is very involved in community activities that include various volunteer activities, such as youth orchestra performer at Mount Tabor Church in Winston-Salem and rehearsed weekly with the local youth orchestra; performed for the homeless at Samaritan Ministries and the general public at Tanglewood Park, Hanes Mall and other venues; member of Boy Scout Troop 934 where he participated in field trips including backpacking and rafting for team building and learning life skills. He also served at Second Harvest Food Bank and volunteered for community-supported events including food drives and fundraising, and he is also a hospital volunteer with Wake Forest Baptist Health Volunteer Services. He was selected as a summer volunteer and collaborated with others to assist hospital staff and provide care for patients.

Dai is a youth flute ensemble performer with the W-S Youth Flute Ensemble and rehearsed extensively with the ensemble in preparation for community musical events to include performing for the elderly at Arbor Acres Nursing Home and other facilities in Forsyth County.

He participated in UNCG music camps for music education, teamwork, and community engagement.

He plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill and study music.
