Madison Spangler, a senior at West Forsyth, will represent the Clemmons Rotary at the District Four-Way Speech Contest that will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown.

She delivered her speech to rave reviews at the Clemmons Rotary on Feb. 9.

The purpose of the speech is to apply the principles of Rotary International’s Four-Way Test to a current ethical issue. The four principles are: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Students were challenged to identify a topic they feel passionate about and to adopt a point of view from which they will seek to persuade others. It should be something from the speaker’s personal experience or general knowledge. There are no restrictions regarding the choice of topic as long as it is not blatantly offensive.

Spangler’s topic was about how the Four-Way test has helped her with school and other challenges in her life. Each part of the Four-Way Test is addressed during the speech.
