Couriering Clemmons: What was happening this week in 1992:

Mayor Nat Swanson appointed a financial committee to help the town with budgetary matters and advice on how to pay for the sewer system. It was not a committee appointed by the Town Council, which drew objections from Warren Kasper.

Keith Falls, Carol Kausch, Dewey Edwards, Charlie Stroud, David Rowe, Dick Jarvis and Art Marzano made up the committee.

A meeting was set for March 17 for homeowners in Rollingreen Village to discuss the possibility of changing their mailing addresses from a Winston-Salem zip code to a Clemmons zip code.

Postmaster Floyd Vaughn said that the determination to change zip codes will be made after results from a survey mailed to all of the residents with a 27103 zip code. Vaughn said that if there were at least 60 percent that wanted the change, the Town Council would be able to approve it.

A public hearing to consider changing the village charter to add a fifth member to the Town Council was set for the council meeting on March 16. W.C. McGee Jr. was spearheading the move to amend the charter to add a fifth member.

The West Forsyth girls basketball team won their opening round game in the NCHSAA 4-A state playoffs with a 53-46 come-from-behind win against Burlington Williams. Brandi Blackwood’s 3-pointer with under two minutes remaining keyed the comeback win.

Four teams from Clemmons Elementary and three from Lewisville Elementary were set to compete at the Northern Regional Odyssey of the Mind event on March 14. The competition expected more than 600 students to participate.
