Couriering Clemmons — What was happening in the area this week in 1992:

Clemmons was appointed a full-time deputy sheriff after a $240,000 grant was awarded from the Governor’s Crime Commission. Clemmons Mayor Al Dillon said that the new deputy would start work on July 1.

West Forsyth honored its winter sports athletes at the annual banquet. Each team recognized all-conference performers and various other awards as selected by the coaches from every team.

Tracey Glazener, the top swimmer in the Central Piedmont 4-A Conference, was named the team’s most valuable swimmer. Scott Danielson was the boy’s MVP.

Allison Vitalo was named most dedicated and Molly Stallings was named most improved. Ralph Knowles was named most dedicated on the boys team, and Eric Danielson and Chad Zulegar were named most improved.

Trung Nguyen and Maurice Little were named as the MVPs for the wrestling team.

Brandi Blackwood was the MVP for girls basketball. Nikki Richmond was named most improved, Emily Tussey received the sportsmanship award, Etophia Wilson won the hustle award and Desiree Anders won the award for best defense, all of which were presented by Coach Vicki Gilbert.

John Taylor was the MVP for the boys basketball team. J.J. Oliver was named as the best offensive player and Brantley Gasaway was named as the team’s top defensive player by Coach Denny Key.

The JV boys team recognized John David Crider and Brad Bovender as co-MVPs.
