Event designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities

Abilities Tennis Association of North Carolina is sponsoring the 9th annual Winston-Salem Abilities Open National Tennis Tournament and Skills Clinic on April 8-9 at the Taylor Tennis Center in Clemmons.

This free event is designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities ages eight and up. The event provides an opportunity for athletes with intellectual disabilities to compete against one another in an inspiring two-day tournament.

“After two years off due to COVID, we are thrilled to bring the Winston-Salem Abilities Open back to the Taylor Tennis Center this year,” said Lou Welch, ATANC executive director. “We invite the whole community to participate. We have a few spots left for athletes with intellectual disabilities who want to compete at any level, and we would love for people to get involved as a volunteer or a fan. We just encourage everyone to support this fan-favorite event.”

Although the event is a tournament for singles players only, there will be options for both short- and full-court play as well as a skills competition for beginning players. Registered players are invited to dinner and a movie at the Taylor Tennis Center after play on Friday.

The event is free, but registration is required for all participants and volunteers. Register at atanc.org.
