The West Forsyth baseball team and softball team both won first-round games in their respective NCHSAA 4-A state tournaments Tuesday night to advance to the second round.

The Titans baseball team, seeded No. 13 and fresh off their Central Piedmont 4-A Conference Tournament championship, downed No. 20 Concord Cox Mill 10-3.

The softball team, seeded No. 19, traveled to No. 14 Charlotte Ardrey Kell to pick up a convincing 17-1 win.
Payton Martin threw five strong innings and stuck out seven and was also 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Jack Vest also provided plenty of pop at the plate, going 3-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

Cam Wall had a double and two RBIs, Reid Withers went 2-3 and scored two runs, and Bryson Chandler was 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Titans, who cranked out 11 hits and capitalized on five Cox Mill errors.

Withers and Harrison Lewis also pitched an inning apiece in relief of Martin to cement the win.

West (23-5) will take on CPC foe Davie County on Thursday at 6:30 at West in the second round. The Titans split their two regular season matchups against the War Eagles.

Cate Etchason hurled a gem for the Titans softball team, throwing a four-hitter and surrendering just one unearned run.

Sydney Horton was 3-3 with a home run and Olivia Chappell was 3-4 to fuel the Titans’ offensive surge.
West (19-7) will hit the road again on Thursday to play at South Mecklenburg at 5 p.m. in the second round.
