The Village of Clemmons is currently seeking candidates for the following job opportunities:

Public works facilities & landscape technician

This employee will be responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and manual labor tasks in the general maintenance of public buildings and facilities and the landscaping of grounds at public buildings, facilities, parks and in rights-of-way. The landscape vegetation maintenance of state and municipal rights-of-way includes the planting, trimming, pruning and spraying of flowerbeds and medians. Mowing and trimming of all public owned property may also be assigned. The employee must have a Right–of-Way and Ornamental Spraying Certification within 12 months of employment. Please note that a CDL driver’s license and an Arborist Certification are preferred. Employee must be able to do other public works related tasks as assigned by the director of public works and director of operations. A high school education or the equivalent is required.

Stormwater technician I

This employee performs technical and administrative duties as necessary to assist the Stormwater Department with all aspects and duties related to the implementation and management of the Stormwater Program.

This position requires self-initiative, excellent human relations skills, considerable knowledge of computer applications and work will include limited travel and some evening meetings.

Qualifications for this position include graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in environmental science or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree and a minimum of one year of experience in stormwater/watershed management, water quality monitoring and inspections, construction and maintenance inspections, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities. Additional skills include demonstrated knowledge and experience in NPDES Phase II Permits, hydrology pertaining to water quality, watershed assessments, floodplain inspections, and erosion control regulations, TMDLs, stormwater utility, and ESRI’S ArcGIS. Applicant should be certified through NCSU Cooperative Extension as a BMP Inspector, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment. Experience working with local governments and budgeting is a plus. Must possess a valid NC driver’s license.

Hiring range is $41,105-$44,240 depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, short-term disability, holiday/vacation/sick pay, Local Government Retirement System and NC401(k).

Village engineer

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, high-energy leader with strong interpersonal skills who is committed to delivering exceptional customer service to internal and external customers by developing effective interpersonal relationships, being open-minded and considerate of different perspectives, demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt and accommodate others, demonstrate confidence and instill the trust of others, show a commitment to continuous improvement, and demonstrate sound independent judgement.

The position administers and directs all activities associated with engineering by providing leadership and guidance to personnel for both the Public Works and Stormwater departments while reporting to and being responsible for making recommendations to the village manager and assistant village manager for matters regarding the Public Works and Stormwater departments; including issues that might have village-wide impact. The ideal candidate should have well-rounded engineering experience, thrive in a small-staff environment that manages multiple projects, and have excellent time management and customer service skills. The role coordinates all infrastructure development for the village and is responsible for the development, review and approval plans and specifications for public improvement projects, building additions and renovation plans, and is involved with the development and coordination of plans for special projects for other departments. The position also handles the performance of various engineering functions in the planning, design, construction and contract administration of the capital improvement program, grant administration and special projects as assigned by the manager.
