With graduation approaching, my time as the Titan Tattler has ended.

When I was given this opportunity last fall, I was hesitant because I’d never written a news article. Even now, I feel that I have not had to write news articles but was more so sharing stories about the joys and hardships our class faced.

Whether it was highlighting the smiles that came with homecoming and prom or informing students about the severity of gun violence, my biggest takeaway was not who was the homecoming queen but rather the importance of perseverance.

Our class witnessed what hard work and dedication looked like when our girl’s basketball team won the NCHSAA 4-A State Championship in 2019. These young women illustrated to us what it meant to put your blood, sweat and tears into a cause.

Perhaps the toughest year was highlighted by schools closing around the country and us having to adopt a completely new method of learning. This unfortunate new reality impacted everyone and caused some to lose loved ones.

This year has been the easiest compared to the three before. Students returned to school again, and the old normal was almost back intact. Off in the distance, new challenges and hardships face us as we are now set to begin to work, go to college or join the military.

In order to succeed in anything, we must persevere. Perseverance is what leads people to championships. Perseverance leads us to adopt new methods of learning. Perseverance allows people to brave the norms and cry out for change.

Finally, perseverance will allow us to be successful at whatever challenges and hardships are ahead as all of us enter new chapters of our lives.

Denzel Washington once said in a graduation speech, “When we fall, we must make sure to fall forward as it is easier to push yourself back up.”

Class of 2022, always remember to fall forward and continue to persevere. I know that if we do this successfully, the highs of life will continue to find us no matter where we are.
