Post 522 Blue is a No. 1 seed in the Stripes Division in the American Legion State Championship

Western Forsyth Post 522 has rolled right into the American Legion baseball state championship tournament as No. 1 seed in the Stripes division, with play getting underway in Thomasville Thursday night.
Post 522 Blue will enter the state tournament on a 10-game winning streak, including a thrilling walk-off win against Stokes Legion on Sunday night to secure the Area 3 championship.
Post 522 swept its opening round series in the Area 3 tournament against Hi Toms and its second round series against Kannapolis, a 2-0 shutout in Game 1 and a 5-2 win in Game 2 to set up the game with Stokes to determine the No. 1 seed.
After letting a 6-4 lead slip away in the seventh inning against Stokes, the teams went to extra innings. Post 522 Blue allowed a leadoff walk, reliever Chris Cornett struck out the final two batters in the eighth.
In Post 522’s half of the eighth, Christian Cooper led off with a walk and advanced to second base on a wild pitch and made it to third on a ground out.
With one out, Parker Lowed laced a single to centerfield that scored Cooper, giving Post 522 Blue the win and extra momentum heading into the state championship tournament.
