Members of Girl Scout Troop 2826, based in Clemmons, recently donated over 800 bilingual books to Smith Farm Elementary for the coming school year.
The scouts — Amelia Bray, Sloane Dockery, Jillian Galbaugh, Rowan Jeffus and Sadie Rudert — were working to obtain their Silver Award. The award, available to middle school students, requires 50 hours of work on a community-focused project. The girls chose to get books for Smith Farm Elementary because of the school’s English/Spanish immersion program. Through a combination of cash donations, contributed books and an online wish list, the girls collected more than 800 books.
The books were donated at the start of the school year. Teacher Kristina Stevenson accepted the donations on behalf of the school.
