The third week of school was a busy one at West, what with the increasing amount of work being assigned to students and the growing number of activities being held, both during and after school.
School picture day was held on Sept. 13 in the old gym. Starting at the beginning of the alphabet, students were directed to go to the gym during their designated period based on their last names to get their picture taken. Any students who were at the Career Center during their designated time were asked to report to the old gym immediately upon their arrival back at West, and students who were absent or wanted their pictures retaken should be prepared to do so on Oct. 18, the make-up picture day. All students are required to have their pictures taken for their student IDs, which are to be distributed with any photos that students have ordered.
West’s Club Rush was also held in the old gym on Sept. 15. The annual Club Rush is an event held during all lunches that students can attend to learn about the various clubs and extracurriculars offered at West. This event is particularly useful to freshmen so that they can find activities that they’re interested in and a great opportunity for older students to represent the clubs they participate in.
It was a good week for Titan athletics as a whole, with volleyball, girls tennis, boys soccer, and girls golf all having victories. The football team is still chasing their first victory of the year after falling to Mount Tabor on Sept. 16.
Auditions for West’s fall plays were held on Sept. 12 and 13 and callbacks were Sept. 14. The auditions were for both the two one-act plays in October, “I Am Angel” and “The Hearing,” and the full-length play held in November, “Vacancy in Paradise.” There were then meetings on Sept. 15, one from 4-6 p.m. for all cast members and another from 6-7 p.m. for the parents of the cast members. Rehearsals for all three plays begin on Sept. 19.
Testing also begins soon at West, with the PSAT being held on Oct. 12 and the Pre ACT to follow soon after on Nov. 2. PSAT sign-ups lasted until Sept. 16 and all sophomores are required to take the Pre ACT later on in the year.
Now that students have had time to get used to balancing their schoolwork, extracurriculars and other outside activities, it’s sure to be an exciting year at West.
