On the Same Page Community Read

“The Personal Librarian” by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray
• Thursday, Sept. 22 through Saturday, Nov. 19
On the Same Page is Forsyth County Public Library’s annual community read. Each year, a selected title will be read by customers and staff all over the county. The library will host programs and discussions around the title for all ages across the 10 library locations and throughout Forsyth County with the help of partners and friends in the community.

Family Films on Friday

Family Storytime
• Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
• Storytime Room
Join in for stories, fingerplays, songs and activities designed for small children. Recommended for children ages 18 months-5 years old and their caregivers, but all ages are welcome. Family Storytime will meet on Tuesdays at 10 a.m.

Crafts-to-Go: Halloween Magnets

Take home and create an adorable Halloween magnet of your home. Available while supplies last. For all ages. Sponsored by the Friends of the Lewisville Branch.

Lego Fall Carnival Contest

It’s harvest season! Build a replica of your favorite fall festival, carnival or Halloween event, and drop it off at the Lewisville Branch between Oct. 17-29. The creations will be on display in the children’s area during the month of November to allow customers to view them and vote for their favorite model. All ages can participate. There will be a first, second and third-place winner. The winners will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 30, and will receive a small prize. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Lewisville Library.

Teen programs

Lewisville-Clemmons Teen Advisory Board Meeting
• Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 5 p.m.
• Clemmons Branch Library
The Lewisville-Clemmons Branch Teen Advisory Board is made up of teen volunteers from the Lewisville and Clemmons area. The board meets once a month, alternating between the Lewisville and Clemmons branches and the board meets on the second Tuesday (during the school year) each month to discuss ways to improve both branches. The Teen Advisory Board helps to plan programs, create displays and suggests resources that the library should purchase. Yoga for Beginners (in-person and virtual)

Belly Dancing for Beginners

Get your shimmy on! Learn the basic moves of this beautiful dance form as this class brings people of all ages together to promote health, happiness and community. Banana Split Demonstration

Come learn how to make a banana split. Forsyth County’s Chef Floyd Davis will demonstrate and also tell about the history of the dessert, the beginnings of which shares the time period of the Forsyth County Public Library’s 2022 On the Same Page community read, “The Personal Librarian” by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray.

Aging Well: A Matter of Balance (Eight-week Series) — information session
• Monday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m.

Would you like to learn ways to improve your balance? Join in for an information session that describes the upcoming program series “Aging Well: A Matter of Balance Eight-week Series” at the Lewisville Branch. The eight-week course will be on Mondays starting Oct. 24 and ending Dec. 12. All sessions will be from 1-3 p.m. Instructors from the Area Agency on Aging, a division of the Piedmont Triad Regional Council, will talk about ways to improve balance, specific exercises for all levels of ability, environmental hazards and more. Participants will exercise during class.

Class size for the series will be limited to 12. Advance registration is required for the series and registration will be on a first come, first served basis. On the Same Page: Women of Influence: Belle da Costa Greene (‘The Personal Librarian’) and Katharine Smith Reynolds

Join in to take part in Forsyth County Public Library’s On the Same Page community read event for a presentation about “The Personal Librarian” by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray.

Bari Helms, director of archives and library at Reynolda House Museum of American Art, will be the guest speaker to discuss the major themes found in “The Personal Librarian,” making comparisons between the main character, Belle da Costa Greene (J.P. Morgan’s personal librarian), and Katharine Smith Reynolds, creator of Reynolda House and Estate and the wife of tobacco tycoon R. J. Reynolds. Themes to be discussed will include the role of women in the Gilded Age, social rules and expectations, women in business, reform work and the movement for women’s suffrage. As well, the themes of racism and segregation will be explored with comparisons made to the life of Greene and the experiences of the Black women who worked at Reynolda. Registration is encouraged.
