September was a busy month for Clemmons Kiwanians. The club’s final meeting at Union Hill Baptist Church was held on Sept. 7, and was attended by special guests, including outgoing District Lieutenant Governor JoAnne LeDonne, incoming District Lieutenant Governor Virgil Lessane and Thao Summerville, president of the Clemmons Civic Club.

Lessane spoke to the club about his goals for the upcoming year. He encouraged everyone us to keep having fun. A book was donated in his honor to the Smart Start program.

Discussion included the Civic Club’s pancake breakfast. Some members of the Key Club served as volunteers at the breakfast. Possible joint projects with the Clemmons Civic Club were also discussed.

The slate of officers for next year were announced. Michael Watson will serve as president, Jim Brosovic will serve as vice president, Barbara Schanker will serve as treasurer and Chris Billups will serve as secretary.

Of special interest was the collection of club bells on display. The bells have been collected over the past several years and have come from many different locations.

The Sept. 14 board meeting was held at Pete’s Restaurant. It was suggested that the club work on joint projects with the Clemmons Civic Club. Other items discussed were Clemmons Community Clean Up Day on Oct. 15, officer installation dinner on Oct. 29, the Blind Power Driving event on Oct. 21, books and school supplies for Morgan Elementary, and applying fora grant from Kiwanis International.

The Sept. 21 membership meeting was held at the club’s new meeting place at the Community Building of Trinity Elms new apartment complex. The members were very pleased with the new meeting spot.

On Sept. 24, Watson and board member Ina Beavers attended the charter dinner for the Davie County Kiwanis Club which the Clemmons club helped to found.

District Governor Mike Crostic and Lessane also attended to officially present the charter.
