On the Same Page Community Read

On the Same Page is Forsyth County Public Library’s annual community read. Each year, the library has selected a title to be read by customers and staff all over the county. The library hosts programs and discussions around the title for all ages across the 10 library locations and throughout Forsyth County with the help of partners and friends in the community.

Dino Seek & Find

• Children’s Room

RAWR! Celebrate dinosaurs this November with Dinovember Seek and Find! Stop by the children’s room between Nov. 1-12 to see if you can find all the hidden dinosaurs in the library then stop by the front desk for a Jurassic prize. It’s going to be dino-mite!

Family Storytime
• Tuesdays at 10 a.m.

Join in for stories, fingerplays, songs and activities designed for small children. Recommended for children ages 18 months-5 years old and their caregivers, but all ages are welcome. Family Storytime will meet on Tuesdays at 10 a.m.

ecoEXPLORE: Mammals
• Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 3:30 p.m.
• Lewisville Branch Auditorium

Join in at the Lewisville Branch as the Greensboro Science Center’s ecoEXPLORE rep, Kelsey Hughes, share with children and families the importance of studying and caring for local mammals (fox, opossums, raccoons, etc.) They will also explain why these animals are so important to our local ecosystem. This program is recommended for grades K-8. For more information, please contact the Lewisville Branch at 336-730-2940. The ecoEXPLORE is an initiative of the North Carolina Arboretum and is an incentive-based citizen science program for children in grades K-8.

Eastern Woodland Native American Shell Gorgets
• Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 3:30 p.m.
• Lewisville Branch Auditorium

Children will learn the importance of shell gorgets to the Eastern Woodland Native Americans. Shell gorgets are a type of art form of polished carved shell pendants worn around the neck. They are believed to have been insignia of status or rank (either civic, military or religious) or amulets of protective medicine. Craft included. Recommended for grades K-8. Native Americans from the North Carolina area are considered Eastern Woodland. Sponsored by the Friends of the Lewisville Library.

Teen programs

Lewisville-Clemmons Teen Advisory Board Meeting
• Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 5 p.m.

The Lewisville-Clemmons Branch Teen Advisory Board is made up of teen volunteers from the Lewisville and Clemmons area. The board meets once a month, alternating between the Lewisville and Clemmons branches and we meet on the second Tuesday (during the school year) each month to discuss ways to improve both branches. The Teen Advisory Board helps to plan programs, create displays and suggests resources that the library should purchase. The Hook & Loop Group meets the first Wednesday of each month at 11 a.m.

Come and join yarn crafters who like to knit, crochet, embroider and such. Bring your own project to work on or use some simple supplies and patterns that will be on hand. All skill levels are welcome. The group shares each other’s company and maybe a tip or two about a project. No formal instruction. Curating Collections and Collectibles

Join in at the Lewisville Branch to learn the importance of curating, documenting and preserving personal collections or collectibles to pass down to family members or to donate them to museums. Stormy Harrell of the Lam Museum of Anthropology will share how to create a provenance (or the story behind a collection), how to clean and store items, and the legalities involved in donating a collection to a museum. How to Create Family Oral Histories

Documenting your genealogy in print is important but we often forget about the oral histories that we pass on from generation to generation. Using today’s widely available recording technology, this program will show you how to record your family history through interview techniques and storing audio files. Acrylic Pouring Art Class

Paint at the Lewisville Branch using the technique of acrylic pouring. Local artist and instructor Amy Guerrini returns to demonstrate this unique technique and help participants create their own work of art. Paint supplies will be provided.
