While things were somewhat quiet last week in the village, it marked the end of an era for West Forsyth’s football program.
Adrian Snow, the head coach who has been leading the Titans for 15 years, resigned his position, putting out a statement on Friday which read “after dedicating the majority of my coaching and teaching career to West Forsyth High School and the Titan Football Program, […] I have decided to step down and turn the page to the next chapter of my life and career.”
Over the past 15 years of Snow’s leadership, the Titans were 122-54 and everyone will be sad to see him go.
Along with coach Snow’s resignation came the first match of the season for the girls varsity wrestling team, which is in its first year of existence, in a scrimmage against Davie. The girls came up short 2-0, but then faced off in weight group pairs to determine who would get to compete in their upcoming invitational meet at Parkwood High School on Nov. 18. The winners were Amber Summers (114 weight class), Hailey Jacinto (120 weight class), Maria Barrios (126 weight class), Jenna Cagle (132 weight class), Chloe Hoover (138 weight class), Devan Bull (145 weight class), Abirose Summers (154 weight class), Jadyn Magallanes (165 weight class), Isabel Ogilvie (165 weight class), Savanna Stain (185 and 235 weight class) and Seraphim Alvarez (235 weight class). After Parkwood, the girls await their upcoming Enka High School Invitational on Nov. 23 and their Pinecrest High School Invitational on Dec. 10.
Along with athletics, the Drama Department entered final preparations for their fall production, “Vacancy in Paradise,” which they will put on in the Performing Arts Center Nov. 17-19. The cast and crew have been working hard over the past few weeks to make sure that everything is perfect for opening night, so make sure to support them as they go into production week. Tickets will be $5 at the door each night.
There has also been some debate and discussion over possible changes in the layout of school days in the district for next school year, such as a switch back to a ‘traditional’ schedule (seven period days, with the same classes every day) or all block classes (having the same four classes every day one semester and a different four classes every day the next). There is talk among students that the decision is supposed to be voted on soon by the school board and/or the superintendent.
We will see how everything pans out in the last full week before Thanksgiving.
