Free concert in Hanes Auditorium in Winston-Salem

Salem Band will perform its annual free Winter Concert on Feb. 19 in Hanes Auditorium at Elberson Fine Arts Center on the campus of Salem Academy and College. This exciting program includes “Blaze the Trail” by Lisa Galvin, Percy Grainger’s “Molly on the Shore,” jazz standard Birdland, Ken Burns’ documentary music, “Ashokan Farewell,” and classic wind band compositions by Clifton Williams and John Zdechlik.
Other works include the fun and unusual “Minor Alterations No. 2: Carols from the Dark Side;” and “Cripple Creek from the Southern Mountains” from the Moravian Music Foundation archives, by N.C. composer Lamar Stringfield. Salem Band’s guest artist for this program is local bass-baritone and UNCSA graduate Leonard Rowe, who will sing a Mozart aria with the band. This concert is supported by a grant from The Arts Council of Winston-Salem Forsyth County. All concerts are free and open to the public. Contact musicdirector@salemband.org for more info.
