Even though it was exam week, that didn’t stop the Titans from having a strong finish to the first semester. Along with all the studying and test taking, winter athletics began their push towards the end of their regular season. Boys varsity basketball took the win over Glenn 78-55 on Jan. 27 after their tough loss to Walkertown last week, and the girls varsity basketball team also beat Glenn on Friday, 43-30.
Both teams played conference rival Reagan at home on Tuesday, at East Forsyth on Wednesday and will play at Davie County on Friday.
Last week, the girls varsity wrestling team also won their match against R.J. Reynolds, the first ever female wrestling matchup in the conference. The Titans and the Demons were tied at 36 points after all the matches, but since the Demons forfeited more matches, the Titans came out on top with the win.
This past week, the West Forsyth Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) made a much-anticipated and long-awaited announcement. The PTSA is holding a semi-formal Winter Wonderland dance for freshmen and sophomores in the gym on Feb. 25 from 7-11 p.m. For many, however, this is not as exciting as they were anticipating. The PTSA previously sent out a survey to all students, asking if they would be interested in having a winter dance, but never specified that it would be for freshmen and sophomores only, causing some confusion among upperclassmen, many of whom had already made plans or bought clothes to attend. It has been a topic of debate once again amongst students, and many have made the point that the information could have been more clearly communicated earlier on in the process. Either way, the dance will be a good opportunity for underclassmen to have a fun-filled night at the end of the winter.
Choices for prom themes for this year have also been released via a survey made by West’s Junior Prom Committee. An email was sent out by principal Kevin Spainhour asking juniors and seniors to cast their vote for one of four possible themes: Masquerade Ball, Enchanted Forest, Hollywood Red Carpet or A Starry Night. In the survey, upperclassmen were also asked to vote for what options they’d prefer for food and were able to nominate songs that they’d like to hear played at prom. West Forsyth’s 2022-23 prom will be held on April 29 at the Millennium Center. Exact times are yet to be announced.
With the second semester upon us, there’s a lot to look forward to in the upcoming months for the Titans.
