With March more than halfway through, schoolwork and extracurricular activities are picking up for the final stretch before spring break. Spring sports have also continued their success. The varsity baseball team lost 5-1 at Oak Grove on March 15, but picked up two dominant conference wins over Parkland, one 20-0 at home on March 14 and the other 21-0 on the road on March 16. They faced Glenn on the road on March 21 and will face Glenn again at home on March 24. The varsity softball team remains undefeated for the season, with wins against Glenn on the road 16-0 on March 14 and East Davidson on the road 10-2 on March 15. They faced Reagan on the road on March 20 and Davie at home on March 21. They face R.J. Reynolds at home next on March 24. The boys varsity lacrosse team took a 9-6 win over Davie at home on March 14 and a 16-5 win on the road against Southern Alamance on March 15, before falling to R.J. Reynolds 12-6 at home on March 16. They played East Forsyth on the road on March 21 and face Mount Tabor at home next on March 24. The girls varsity lacrosse team took down Davie at home 16-6 on March 14 and Southeast Guilford 17-8 on the road on March 15, before losing to R.J. Reynolds in a close game 12-11 on the road on March 16. They played East Forsyth on the road on March 21 and Lake Norman at home on March 22, and also face Mount Tabor next at home on March 24. The girls varsity soccer team took down Mount Tabor 7-0 on the road on March 15 and tied T.C. Roberson 2-2 on the road on March 17, before being taken down by Asheville on the road 3-2 on March 18. They faced Parkland at home on March 20 and Glenn on the road March 22, and play Reagan next on the road on March 27.
After lots of hard work and preparation, the Titan Drama Department presents their spring musical, “Bye Bye, Birdie,” over the next few days. Opening night is tonight, March 23, at 7 p.m. and tickets will be $10 at the door. If you can’t make it, there will be two other performances, one at 7 p.m. Friday, March 24, and an afternoon show at 2 p.m. on March 25. After the matinee, the department is hosting a 20-year reunion for all current and former drama students of Drama Department director, Renae Hubbard. The event will be catered by Little Richard’s and will be a great way to celebrate the talented theater program at West over the past two decades. Make sure to come out to support this year’s cast of “Bye Bye, Birdie” and drama students, come and enjoy the festivities afterwards.
With only a little while left before spring break, it’s sure to be a fast-paced and exciting last week and a half.
