With today being the last day of school before spring break, as well as the last day of the third quarter, the Titans have been busy finishing up with academics and continued success in athletics. While the varsity baseball team was shut out at Glenn 4-0 on March 21, they bounced back to beat the Bobcats at home 4-0 on March 24. They also played at Reagan on March 28 and will face the Raiders again today, March 30, at home. The Titans were tied for first place in the conference to start the week. The varsity softball team has also been on a roll lately, with a 7-2 win over Davie at home on March 21 and two wins against R.J. Reynolds in a double header at home on March 24, 16-0 and 15-0. They faced Mount Tabor at home on March 27 and East Forsyth on the road on March 28, and will play West Stokes at home tonight. They also top the Central Piedmont 4A conference. The boys varsity lacrosse team beat East Forsyth in a close game on the road 6-5 on March 21, but lost to Mount Tabor at home in another close game 8-7. They faced off against Hickory at home on March 28, and face Glenn at home tonight. The girls varsity lacrosse team beat East Forsyth on the road 20-4 on March 21 and Lake Norman 15-14 at home on March 22. They faced Mount Tabor at home on March 24, Hickory at home on March 28 and Hough at home on March 29, and will face Glenn at home tonight. The girls varsity soccer team had two 9-0 wins this past week, one over Parkland at home and the other over Glenn on the road. This week, they played Reagan on the road on March 27 and Davie at home on March 29. Their next game will be after spring break, at home against East Forsyth on April 12.
This past week, West hosted Scott Reintgen, author of the Nyxia, Talespinners, and Ashlords series, as well as “The Problem with Prophecies,” to come and talk to students during fourth period on March 24. His new YA fantasy book, “A Door in the Dark,” was just published by Simon & Schuster on March 28.
The spring musical, “Bye Bye, Birdie,” was performed last week as well. The show ran on March 23, 24 and 25, and was attended by many West Forsyth drama alumni, some of whom were in the original Titan production of “Bye Bye, Birdie” in drama director Renae Hubbard’s first year at West 20 years ago. The show was a huge success, drawing large crowds for all three performances.
To celebrate spring break, the SGA is hosting their staff versus students dodgeball game fourth period this afternoon, March 30. Class periods will each be shortened to about an hour, and any students who purchased tickets to play or watch will be allowed to leave to attend around 2:15. Students without tickets will remain in fourth period until the end of the regular school day.
