Letter to the editor: 11-year-old speaks out on gun control

Published 12:00 am Thursday, April 6, 2023

I am 11 years old, and I want gun control so I can be sure my sister is safe at school. I do not like hearing about school shootings, and I don’t want Clemmons to have the next shooting.

A small community like Clemmons has an easier time making decisions because there are fewer people to debate the issue. I’d like to do something to make the community safer for everyone. Clemmons can set examples for important ideas like gun control.

Ideas to make gun and driver’s licenses alike: class and test for first license, gun insurance, renew licenses occasionally, temporary loss of licenses for misuse of guns or medical problems. Also, eliminate the purchase or ownership of magazine firearms, limit ammunition purchase, and register firearms with local communities like cars have license tags.

I want to be sure my sister is safe at school. Clemmons, it would be amazing if you would help with gun control.
