With AP exams now fully underway, many students are now knee-deep in studying and testing. Even with all the hard work in school though, the Titans still managed to have plenty of success outside of the classroom as well. Most West Forsyth spring sports finished off their regular seasons this past week, the exception being the boys varsity volleyball team, which took a 3-0 win over Lexington on April 26 and will play their final game of the season at home against Watauga on May 8.
The girls varsity soccer team took a 9-0 win at Parkland on May 24 and a 7-0 win at home over Glenn on April 25, to lengthen their shutout streak to nine in a row. The girls played their final game of the regular season at home against Reagan on May 1. The varsity baseball team took home a 4-2 win over East Forsyth on April 25 and faced East in a rematch at home to close out their regular season on May 1. The varsity softball team hosted some non-conference teams this past week, ending with a 12-5 win over Surry Central on April 24 and a 6-1 win over Orange on April 25. They also faced East Forsyth at home for their final regular season game on May 1. The boys varsity lacrosse team fell to R.J. Reynolds 15-3 on the road in their final regular season game on April 25, but recorded a 13-9 home win over Davie the day before and got the chance to face Grimsley on the road in the playoffs on May 2. The girls varsity lacrosse team beat both Glenn and Reagan at home in the conference championships, 21-2 and 18-7 respectively, and will face the winner of the Hough-Northern Guilford game tonight.
West had its first metal detector screening day on April 27. Students were asked to unzip the pockets of their backpacks and remove any items from their pockets as bags were searched and students were checked at one of the four screening locations. Each student then got a wristband that they wore for the rest of the day. Despite the concerns about how much time the screening would take at a school with as large a student body as West, the Titans posted the fastest screening time in the district, finishing up around 9:26 a.m. The success of the screening showed potential for even faster and more efficient screenings in the future.
