With AP exams nearly over and the end of the year and graduation in sight, there is much to get excited about over the next few weeks at West Forsyth. Some Titan athletics teams have moved into their postseasons, such as the boys and girls beach volleyball teams, who won state championships last weekend. The Titans also took home best pair state championships, with Grant Lamoureux and Hayden Lichty securing the boy’s title and Kayla Kozak and Emily Richards taking the girl’s title.
The boy’s lacrosse team advanced to the second round of the state playoffs after a 19-12 win over Grimsley on May 2, but fell to No. 1 ranked Lake Norman 19-2 on May 4. The girl’s lacrosse team advanced in the state tournament as well, beating Hough 18-8 on May 5. They faced Charlotte Catholic in the second round on May 9.
The varsity baseball team won the Central Piedmont 4-A Conference Championship for the second straight year last week, with back-to-back 5-4 wins over Reagan in the semifinals on May 3 and Davie in the championship game on May 4. The varsity softball team won their last regular season game 3-2 over Reagan at home on May 1, but fell to Davie in a 4-3 loss in the semifinals of the conference tournament on May 3.
The girl’s soccer team completed their regular season earlier this week, with games at R.J. Reynolds on May 8 and Reagan at home on May 10. The Titans entered the week unbeaten in conference play and the NCHSAA 4-A state tournament will begin next week.
May also holds many exciting events for the awards ceremonies and performing arts as well. Senior Awards Day will be held at West on May 19, starting first thing in the morning, for all seniors to attend. The Groscars, the Drama Department’s end of year awards ceremony event, will be held on May 26 at 6 p.m., with the theme “Out of This World.” The event will be held in the Performing Arts Center and all are welcome. The Chorus Department will also hold their spring concert in the PAC on May 23 at 7 p.m.
End Of Course (EOC) exams for Math 1, Math 3, biology and English 2 will run from May 26 to June 9. Teacher made final exams will occur during those two weeks as well.
We’re almost there, Titans. Let’s make the most of the next few weeks we have left.
