As we move from mid to late May, there is much bustle and activity going on at the village to close out the 2022-23 school year.

Most West sports teams have finished their postseasons after making good runs in the state playoffs. The varsity baseball team secured an upset win over Charlotte Catholic 5-4 at home on May 9 but fell to Northwest Guilford 7-1 on the road on Friday.

The varsity softball team, which was also highly successful in the regular season, lost in a close 2-1 game to Weddington at home in the first round of the state playoffs on May 9.

The girls’s varsity lacrosse team also suffered an unfortunate state playoff defeat on May 9, a 21-2 loss on the road at the hands of Charlotte Catholic.

The girl’s varsity soccer team secured a 3-0 win on the road against R.J. Reynolds on May 8 and a 2-0 defeat by East Forsyth at home on May 10 to close out their regular season. Then, they moved on to their own state playoffs, where they faced Piedmont at home on Monday in the first round. After winning 6-1, they advanced to face South Mecklenburg on Thursday.

The newly-founded boy’s varsity volleyball team won the conference championship in their inaugural season this past week, with a 3-0 win over Tri-City Christian at home. They take on the state playoffs this upcoming weekend.

An informational meeting for all seniors about senior awards day and graduation was held on Wednesday. The meeting was to help make sure seniors knew what they had to do and were prepared for those important events. Awards Day will be held Friday, starting first thing in the morning, and graduation will be held on June 10 at 4 p.m. at the LJVM Coliseum in Winston-Salem.

The North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) just opened registration for summer classes to all North Carolina students this past week. The classes run asynchronously from late June through early August. They are a great way for students to take a graduation-required class, such as the newly required personal finance class, from the ease of their own homes, freeing up their schedules for more elective classes next year. Contact your counselor for more information on how to register for these online courses.

With so much to be prepared for, it’s sure to be a busy and exciting last few weeks of the school year for the Titans.
