Tarheel Chapter of Military Officers Association of America awards to scholarships

The Tarheel Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America held its annual scholarship awards and dinner at Salem Glen Country Club on May 9.
Two JROTC students were awarded $1,500 scholarships and an acrylic plaque recognizing their achievements, both scholastically and in service to their community. They were accompanied by their parents and JROTC instructors. Some 70 military officers and their wives were present to celebrate.
The recipients were Cadet MaKayla Beard of Mt. Tabor High School a member of the National Honor Society, class president and while a junior attained the rank of brigade command sergeant major, a position usually reserved for seniors. Beard will be a student in the fall at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Cadet Miles Akers of North Davidson High School, is also a member of the National Honor Society and an Eagle Scout. Akers obtained the rank of colonel during 4 years in JROTC.
The Tarheel Chapter of The Military Officers Association of America salutes the young individuals.
The chapter meets the second Tuesday of every month from January through May and September through December at the Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons. All officers and their spouses are welcome to join for a social hour, dinner and fellowship.
