For the Clemmons Courier

After a long four-day weekend to celebrate Halloween and the end of the first quarter, the Titans are back on campus, ready to kick off quarter two in style.

Despite falling 45-35 to East Forsyth at home in the Central Piedmont Conference (CPC) Championship match last week, the 11th-seeded Titans still managed to snag a home game in the first round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) football playoffs, taking on 22nd-seeded Ardrey Kell Friday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m.

It will be the first time any current West students will have gotten to see their Titans host a playoff game. Come out and sport the green and gold to cheer on the team in their playoff quest.

To round out the fall sports seasons, the boys varsity soccer team hosted a first-round playoff game of their own, facing off against Providence on Oct. 30. The girls varsity volleyball team had a disappointing 3-0 loss at Marvin Ridge on Oct. 24 to end their 2023 season. Boys and girls basketball, swimming, indoor track and wrestling will all begin their seasons in the next couple of weeks.

All sophomores were administered the state annual Pre-ACT exam on Nov. 1. The test acts as practice for the actual ACT exam, which North Carolina requires for all juniors. Scores should be available for students in a few weeks.

The annual rising freshman recruitment event is returning to West next week on Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. Previously called “Explore the Possibilities,” the newly named “Titan Beginnings” event allows rising freshmen to visit campus and explore all the elective, extracurricular and athletic opportunities offered in the village. It is a fun and informative night for all. If you know any rising freshmen, make sure to tell them about this great opportunity.

The National Honor Society is hosting one of its annual food drives benefiting the Clemmons Food Pantry. All seniors in the club must bring in their assigned items before Nov. 7 in order to get credit for participating. Extra help sorting and delivering the food is also needed, so make sure to sign up to get some service hours if you’re interested. The newly inducted juniors will complete their food pantry drive in the spring.

We’re halfway to the second semester, Titans. Make sure to find ways to keep yourself organized and motivated throughout these next few months.
