LEWISVILLE — On Nov. 23 at approximately 12:50 pm, a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputy received an alert from the Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) system of a stolen license plate in the area of Country Club Road and Meadowlark Drive.
The deputy notified communications and other deputies in the area of the ALPR activation as he turned around on the vehicle, a white Jeep Wrangler, that was then traveling on Shallowford Road toward Lewisville. Another deputy observed the white Jeep Wrangler at 12:55 p.m. and activated his blue lights in an effort to stop the vehicle. The suspect vehicle reportedly accelerated rapidly away from the deputy on Lewisville-Vienna Road at a high rate of speed.
At 12:56 p.m., the driver of the suspect vehicle lost control of the vehicle in a curve in the 600 block of Lewisville-Vienna Road striking a tree and coming to a stop in the front yard of the residence at 605 Lewisville-Vienna Road. EMS responded to the scene of the vehicle crash whereby the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other occupants were inside the vehicle.
The length of time of the pursuit from when the deputy activated his blue lights until the crash occurred was only 34 seconds.
The license plate and vehicle had been reported stolen to the Chesapeake, Virginia, Police Department on Nov. 21.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the traffic crash and all inquiries as to the details of the traffic crash and the identity of the deceased driver.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and close friends of the driver who lost their life in this tragedy,” Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough Jr. said. “Our prayers are with them during this time and the days ahead.”
