CLEMMONS — With the last school week of 2023 coming to a close, there is much to reflect on moving into winter break and the holiday season.

While both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams have had about a week off, but get back to action at Parkland Friday evening, Dec. 15, the boys varsity wrestling team was busy, taking down Parkland on the road last week on Dec. 7.

The Titans host Glenn at home tonight, Dec. 14, for their next match. The varsity swim team will also face their opponents, Mount Tabor and Reagan, in their next meet tomorrow in Spartan-town.

Sophomore indoor track and field athlete Hope Newsome also qualified for states and nationals in the triple long jump this past week as well.

The chorus department hosted its annual holiday concert this past Tuesday, Dec. 13. Like the other chorus concerts, the performance featured three ensembles: Beginning Chorus, Mixed Chorus and Concert Choir.

Each ensemble’s concert-specific pieces were accompanied by the typical Christmas carol sing-along at the holiday concerts, as well as Concert Choir’s annual procession performance of an original arrangement of “O Come Emmanuel,” arranged by choral director Jacob Cook. The concert also served as the final day of the department’s 2023-24 fundraiser; overall, the classes earned well over $10,000 in donations to help fund new risers, sheet music and field trips.

The gears have also begun to turn for West’s spring musical, “Anastasia,” this past week. Provided monologues and audition pieces will be available to students these last few days before winter break to practice over the holidays. Official auditions will be held the week after returning to school in January.

Many seniors have already begun to get college decisions back from their rolling admission schools, and while there are quite a few early action schools whose decisions don’t release until January, a great deal of those schools’ decisions are releasing in the next few days, and seniors are waiting with bated breath. Congratulations to everyone on their acceptances so far, and best of luck for the first big wave of early action decisions.

Remember to keep up to good work for Holiday Spirit Week. Today is Santa’s Workshop Day, and tomorrow is Ugly Sweater Day. The Best Dressed contest is still in play as well, so make sure to submit your best looks to SGA’s Instagram page.

Great work in 2023, Titans. Rest up, have a great break and be ready to go again in 2024.
