The second semester has finally begun for the Titans, which means new block classes and new sets of grades on top of the usual campus activities.
Registration began this week for current freshmen through juniors, starting with a registration fair on Wednesday, in the old gym during all lunches. Different classes had informational tables that students could come and visit to learn more about possible class selections and new offerings for the 2024-25 school year. Due to the earlier start to next school year, many classes will be formatted differently and hold different content, so the fair was a great chance for students to learn more.
Registration orientations begin Thursday, starting with the juniors in the morning and then the sophomores in the afternoon. The freshmen will kick off the morning Friday, followed by a Forsyth Tech and Career Center orientation in the afternoon. Students should be ready to enter their course selections in Powerschool throughout next week and will meet with their counselor one on one to finalize their schedules between Feb. 12 and March 14.
For many seniors, Jan. 26 was a big day. Both UNC Chapel Hill and NC State early action decisions were released this past Friday, along with early action decisions from many other big schools across the country. No matter what your decisions were, there is a lot for seniors to be proud of. With most early application decisions now released, seniors are now able to at least begin considering where they want to spend the next four years of their lives. Congratulations to all applicants on your hard work and dedication.
Winter sports are beginning to wrap up their seasons as well to make way for the start of spring sports in just under three weeks. The boys varsity basketball team lost a tough 78-71 game to Mount Tabor on the road last week on Jan. 23, but bounced back just three days later to take a huge 94-78 win over Parkland in the Mustangs’ house. Their third to last week of regular season play included a road game against Glenn this past Tuesday, and a road game at Reagan Friday, Feb. 2. The girls varsity basketball team matched the boys record of last week, taking a 53-47 loss to Mount Tabor on the road on Jan. 23 and a 46-37 win over Parkland on the road on Jan. 26. The girls also faced the Bobcats earlier this week and will take on the Raiders tomorrow right before the boys’ game.
Have a great rest of your week, Titans.
